NEWS RELEASE: Big Bear Courthouse to Reopen Twice Per Month Starting January 2018

| Category:

Effective January 12, 2018, the San Bernardino Superior Court will relaunch court services for residents of the Big Bear Valley for traffic and non-traffic infraction matters.

Through innovative use of technology, remote video proceedings will be supported by a judicial officer sitting in the Victorville District. Residents may appear remotely at the Big Bear District located at 477 Summit Boulevard on traffic and non-traffic infraction matters. The Barstow District will continue to hear traffic and non-traffic infraction matters as scheduled for those individuals who wish to appear in-person.

The Clerk’s Office will be open to the public on the second and fourth Friday of each month during the business hours of 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., to provide limited services, including non-cash payments, traffic school sign-ups, payment extension, scheduling a court date, and general court information.

A Self-Help Resource Center will also be open to the public on the fourth Friday of each month during the business hours of 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Members of the public with questions about family law, child support, guardianship, landlord/tenant, or small claims cases may visit the Big Bear Courthouse for assistance. Court staff can provide practical legal information, answer questions regarding process and procedure, provide resources and tools to assist with preparing necessary forms, and review completed forms to ensure they are ready for filing.

Funding for the Big Bear expansion is made possible by an Innovation Grant awarded by the Judicial Council of California. Additional services will be provided to the Big Bear District as funding allows.

This ongoing collaboration between the San Bernardino Superior Court, and San Bernardino County 3rd District Supervisor, James Ramos, represents a continuing effort to restore services that were once reduced or eliminated due to budget cuts over the last several years.
